Design: A Gentle Manifesto
A manifesto can be a deeply felt statement of belief that offers a gentle guide to change rather than a radical call to action. This manifesto consists of six simple words: Design can powerfully change the world. Take a moment and contemplate that statement. Imagine what your world would be like without designed materials such as newspapers, magazines, websites, packaging, books, movies.
Images, photos and visual environments loom large in our mediated world. Design uses the tools and language of visual art to communicate complex concepts. Designers work with illustrations, photographs, typography and text. Through artistry, conceptual skills and a mastery of the craft designers create work that resonates deeply, challenges intellect and makes meaningful connections. In an increasingly visual world, designers need to consider their message and take responsibility for their creations.
